I don't see the equation between inclusiveness and softening the teachings. Inclusiveness, at a Catholic law school, means that non-Catholic voices of good will are welcomed as partners in the dialogue and debate with Catholic thought. That is quite different from changing (softening) the Catholic teachings.
Professor Berg of St. Thomas touches on the notion of engagement, something I recently encountered was lost on many. Also, this discussion borders on the idea of "openmindnedness." I find the Professor's distinction valuable , if not also necessary, for those who continue to believe that openmindness necessarily includes the desire to integrate or compromise.
